Monday Improvisations is a different kind of ecstatic dance—a weekly experiment in what can happen when DJs, musicians, and dancers begin listening and responding to one another in real time.
We begin with an ecstatic dance DJ set and climb relatively quickly into movement: rhythmic, physical, expansive. And then the journey turns. The tempo drops. The bass gets deeper. The music becomes exotic, strange...challenging your body to discover new pathways to freedom.
Live musicians enter the journey and improvise within it—responding to the dancers and the DJ while the DJ responds in turn. Frame drum, percussion, voice, strings, winds, and other instruments may appear from week to week. Electronic and acoustic sound become part of one evolving musical environment.
Expect an eclectic landscape of bass music, downtempo, polyrhythmic grooves, electronic music, global sounds, jazz, classical textures, live improvisation, and music that may be difficult to categorize.

Contact, Connection & Consent
Because Monday Improvisations invites more interpersonal movement, consent is a crucial part of the improvisation.
Contact is always an invitation, never an expectation.
Before initiating touch with someone new, seek their consent. Eye contact, an offered hand, or movement toward someone can begin an invitation—but proximity is not permission. Dancing near someone is not permission. And someone's participation in contact improvisation is not blanket permission to touch them.
A yes to dancing together is not automatically a yes to every kind of touch, intimacy, lift, weight share, or duration of contact. Either dancer can change the dance or leave it at any moment.
We practice both sides of consent: Know your yes. Honor your no. Welcome someone else's no. **A wholehearted yes becomes possible when no is easy to give and easy to receive. **You never owe anyone a dance, touch, explanation, apology, or continued interaction. And we encourage each dancer to cultivate the ability to communicate their own boundaries clearly rather than expecting another person to read their mind.
Your responsibility to communicate your boundaries never removes another person's responsibility to seek and respect your consent.
That freedom is part of the practice.
