Proposal Writing: How to work smarter, not harder, on getting what you want

Many opportunities for artists require written proposals, which can seem like a skill far away from your artistic process. This topic is geared towards individual artists that already do or hope to start applying regularly to grants, residencies, or are pitching projects via written materials.The webinar will delve into how to open doors by presenting your best self and work in written proposals. We will touch on the different types of proposals and how to begin the process. We will also go into the different pieces of a proposal including the introductory letter, project description, artistic statement, bio, and CV. Rebecca will shed light on what happens during the review process, and discuss the most common missteps artists make. The interactive workshop will go into more detail about the different pieces that artists will need to develop to build strong proposals and focus on areas that artists often find most challenging. There will be an in-depth explanation of the different types of budgets that might be included, and how to be sure budgets are aligned with the other materials. We will delve deeply into artist statements, including opportunities for peer review. Proposal Writing Webinar will take place on Wednesday, September 23 at 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM EST, and will cover:<ul><li>Different types of proposals that artists may encounter</li><li>Common elements of a proposal and best practices</li><li>How to ensure that you are being selective and strategic</li><li>How to be most efficient with your research and proposal writing</li><li>What happens during the review process</li></ul>Proposal Writing Interactive will take place on Wednesday, September 30 at 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM EST, and will cover:<ul><li>Project Budgets and key terms</li><li>How to use budgets to tell the story of your project</li><li>Pitfalls and challenges of budgets</li><li>Key aspects of strong artist statements</li><li>Feedback on your artist statement</li></ul>* The interactive workshop is capped at 25 participants; those registering for an interactive workshop must first take the webinar on this topic.
