Welcome to the Summer at SoundHouse - newly opened musicians led space for contemporary music and more in the heart of The Hague
Modular Fields built on process-based collaboration. Musicians from Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands came together to co/create a modular programme consisting of music from 17th, 20th and 21st century. Starting from the unique Harp consorts by William Lawes from 1630, to a graphic score by Erno Kiraly based on golden section proportions, and adding a new composition 'phonaessa' by Richard Barrett, written especially for the ensemble of violin, harp (and their voices) theorbo and viola da gamba - interspersed with Intractions (a series of guided improvisation pieces for the whole ensemble with electronics)
The concept of modularity is not only in the exploration of the possibilities of open forms, but also the friction between historical and contemporary instruments and repertoire, and between strict composition and structured improvisation. The result is a playground for exploration, a kind of poetic chaos in which differences melt into one consolidated identity.
