The MLK Day Celebration will return to Lincoln University on Monday, January 16, 2023. The community is invited to join us as we celebrate Dr. King's legacy of service and be inspired to live out his dream today in our community and throughout the world.

This year’s keynote speaker is Oliver St. Clair Franklin, CBE, community activist, diplomat, and past President and CEO of International House, Philadelphia. Since 1998, by appointment by the UK government, he has served as third Honorary British Consul for Greater Philadelphia and this year was appointed a Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth shortly before her death. A graduate of Lincoln University and Balliol College at the University of Oxford, he founded the first Black Film Festival in Philadelphia and served as deputy city representative for arts and culture under Mayor Goode. Inspired by Dr. King, Frederick Douglas and Nelson Mandela he created his own firm, Reinvest in South Africa, before leading International House. Keenly aware of the trauma the empire caused through colonization and the benefit academia received from the transatlantic slave trade, after the George Floyd murder he produced a film and lecture series, "Slavery in the Age of Revolution." He will provide a powerful message on this year's theme, "Unity: Working Together for Social Change" and share some of his thoughts on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
