We believe that our role as a theological school includes community engagement in theological education, which also encourages lasting societal change.On that note, we offer Keynote for this event by <a href="https://www.meadville.edu/who-we-are/faculty-staff-and-trustees/faculty/biography/nicole-kirk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr. Nicole Kirk</a>. She will give a talk on a piece of very fascinating UU history, entitled, A “Congregation of the Air”: Ministry, Technology, and American Religion On November 2, 1920, the first commercial radio broadcast crackled across the airwaves from Westinghouse Electric’s station KDKA in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Four years later, over 600 radio stations were broadcasting across the United States. Religious organizations and leaders quickly embraced the new technology and began offering regular religious programming. Several Universalist and Unitarian congregations joined this programming surge and adopted radio broadcasting for worship services. This lecture will consider Unitarian and Universalist radio broadcasts in the Midwest during the twentieth century and the importance of technology for religion today.There are many other ways you can support Meadville Lombard.
