Join queer artist and creative facilitator Kathryn Boyd (she/they) for an evening of creativity, connection, and playful exploration through mixed media.

This queer creative gathering is an invitation to slow down, experiment, and reconnect with the joy of making. Together, we'll explore a playful mix of materials and techniques — from ink, watercolour, acrylic, pastels, markers to collage and more.

Through guided exercises, demonstrations, and plenty of time to create, Kathryn will share techniques and approaches from her own mixed media art practice while encouraging you to experiment, take creative risks, and discover your own unique visual language.

This workshop is an opportunity to:

• Let go of perfection and quiet the inner critic
• Embrace curiosity, play, and experimentation
• Explore colour, texture, layering, mark-making, and collage
• Discover what happens when different materials come together
• Experiment with techniques and materials without needing to create a "perfect" finished piece
• Create alongside community in a welcoming and affirming environment

No previous art experience is needed. Whether you are an experienced artist or simply curious to try something new, you are invited to come as you are, play with the materials, and see where your creativity takes you.

You'll leave with your own original artwork, new techniques and ideas to explore, and the experience of sharing an evening of making and connection with community.

What to Bring

Just bring yourself and your curiosity. All art materials are provided.

Light refreshments will also be provided throughout the evening.

If you have a favourite apron or art shirt you'd like to wear, feel free to bring one to protect your clothing.

This workshop is a 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming and inclusive gathering grounded in care, respect, and belonging. Kathryn Boyd Fine Arts, Art for Grief and Foy House is committed to creating a welcoming environment where participants can show up authentically, express themselves freely, and engage in the creative process without judgment.

All identities, experiences, and creative abilities are welcomed. Together, we practice kindness, curiosity, and respect for one another as we create.

Tickets & Accessibility

This workshop has been intentionally priced with community access in mind.

Community Ticket — $35 + applicable taxes and fees

Your ticket helps cover the cost of materials, space rental, and facilitation.

Supporter Ticket — $50 + applicable taxes and fees

If you're able to contribute a little more, your ticket helps make lower-cost spaces available for others in our community.

Pay What You Can — 3 spaces available

A limited number of Pay What You Can spaces are available for anyone who would like to attend but for whom the ticket price is a barrier. Please reach out to Kathryn when registering to discuss a PWYC ticket.
