Overview

ILP member companies are invited to join for a panel discussion and networking event focused on Health Equity and Data Bias.

Join for an Expert Panel and Networking Session:

On May 18 and 19, the MIT ILP will host the 2023 MIT Health Datathon. This event is being organized by Dr. Leo Celi, who holds appointments at MIT, Harvard, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and seeks to address the issue of patient safety with a strong focus on health disparities, since treatment injuries disproportionately affect marginalized patient populations.

To engage with this dynamic assembly of experts in the field, ILP member companies are invited to join the evening portion of the Datathon, including a networking dinner and an expert panel featuring leaders in the field from industry, academia, and the startup community.

The panel will focus on key topics related to Health Equity, Patient Safety, the Future of AI in Healthcare, and Data Bias. Additionally, participants will share their perspective on recent advances in generative AI and implications for health equity, as well as highlight new directives from the White House and CMS that tie payments to health equity in the field.

Panelists:

Dr. John Chan (Takeda): Dr. John Chan serves as Head of the ShinrAI Center for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with Takeda's Data Sciences Institute. Previously, Dr. Chan was the Head of Informatics and Technology at Novartis, prior to taking a role as CEO for the startup Syllable Life Sciences, an AI company with deep expertise in quantifying mental states. Dr. Chan is a visiting scientist with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.

A Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Brigham (MGB) nephrology graduate turned physician entrepreneur, Dr. Joe served as CEO and Co-Founder of Madstro.com, a social network for physicians.

Dr. Marzyeh Ghassemi (MIT): Dr. Marzyeh Ghassemi is an Assistant Professor at MIT in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and Institute for Medical Engineering & Science (IMES), and a Vector Institute faculty member holding a Canadian CIFAR AI Chair and Canada Research Chair. She holds MIT affiliations with the Jameel Clinic and CSAIL.
