APICC is proud to co-present Minority Without a Model as part of the <a href="https://www.apiculturalcenter.org/usaaf2021" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">24th annual United States of Asian America Festival: Forging Our Futures - SoMa &amp; Chinatown</a>. "Single Asian male seeking himself." Minority Without a Model is a debut solo dance theater work by Johnny Huy Nguyen. Interrogating the intersections of masculinity, desire, and becoming in his own body, the work investigates the complex intersections between power and desire and the lengths to which the longing to be visible can estrange us from ourselves and the very thing we are looking for - love and acceptance. ABOUT THE ARTISTJohnny Huy Nguyen is a second generation Vietnamese American multidisciplinary dance artist based in unceded Ramaytush-Ohlone territory (San Francisco). Centering his practice on the body and its power as a site of knowledge and resistance, he navigates the personal alongside the political in hopes of engaging the collective imagination further towards radical empathy.

ABOUT THE UNITED STATES OF ASIAN AMERICA FESTIVALThis year's <a href="https://www.apiculturalcenter.org/usaaf2021" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">24th annual United States of Asian American Festival</a> (USAAF) presents over 20 different programs reflecting the artistic accomplishments and cultural diversity of San Francisco’s Pacific Islander and Asian American communities. USAAF showcases artists representing a diverse range of ethnic and cultural groups and aims to heighten the visibility of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) artists working in all disciplines - theater, music, dance, film, literature, visual arts, and more! Our goal is to nurture and empower these groups to be self-sufficient while providing the support they need to grow.
