About this event

Join us for this hands-on workshop to learn how to make your own miniature Victorian terrarium using up-cycled materials, inspired by 19th c. Wardian cases. Learn how to layer soils and substrates, propagate plants, and choose a selection of mosses and other plant materials. Add Victorian-inspired embellishments for the final touch! All supplies included. Age 18 & up.

Optional: bring a small glass or ceramic figurine or favorite rock (less than 1" tall/diameter) to add to your miniature terrarium.

Program includes Ten Broeck Mansion garden tour (about 20 minutes) learning about Ten Broeck Mansion greenhouse, and other 18-19th century techniques for plant cultivation. Program held in King's Place Education Room at west end of Ten Broeck gardens.

To make your visit safe and enjoyable for all:

1) By car: please park in our Livingston Avenue lot (GPS address 138 Livingston) - free off-street parking. Our historic neighborhood has sidewalks for easy pedestrian access. See our website for information on public transportation.

2) Please wear comfortable shoes for walking on historic, sometimes uneven surfaces (no spike heels) as part of the garden tour. King's Place building up one flight of stairs. Wear comfortable clothes for a hands-on project.

3) ADA accessible entrance, restroom, and parking available - please contact us for more information.

4) Late arrivals will not be able to stay past the allotted time.

5) ACHA members using member discount will have membership status verified prior to program start.

6) Bring your own water bottle and a light snack to enjoy in the gardens (pack in, pack out) before or after the program. Browse locally made artisanal gifts and our history book selections in our Museum Shop open 1-4 pm. Ten Broeck Mansion Tours available (see our ticket page for details).

7) We are unable to offer refunds for this program.
