About this event

Mindfulness Yoga at PRS: Meditating with Chaos & Uncertainty

Meditating with Chaos & Uncertainty is a meditation and somatic yoga series designed to intentionally incorporate elements of perceived chaos or disarray into the sonic experience. Each session will feature a live instrumentalist exploring irregular rhythms and unpredictable sound patterns along with a guided meditation and beginner-friendly movement practice. This series is for anyone interested in confronting and integrating aspects of chaos within themselves or their lives, rather than seeking pure relaxation; it could be seen as a way to explore and work through uncomfortable or turbulent emotions through the power of sound and practice acceptance and letting go.

This month will be featuring guest artist Kelby Clark.

Kelby Clark is a composer, improviser, and banjo player from South Georgia. He is inspired by the old-time music of his home state as well as drone, free improvisation, raga, and many other forms of both experimental and traditional music from around the world. His playing draws from clawhammer and two-finger banjo traditions as well as sitar, sarod, oud, tanbur, guqin, flamenco guitar, and classical guitar techniques. Clark has released records and tapes on labels such as Tentative Power, Aural Canyon, Working Man Lay Down, Garden Portal, Vaagner, Amulet of Tears, Eastern Nurseries, and Audio. Visuals. Atmosphere. He has also scored several independent films such as She Drank Vinegar from the River (2023) and Sometimes I Hear the Light Leak in Through the Corners of My Room (2023). He is currently based in Los Angeles.

Press Quotes:

"Clark's playing is raw, otherworldly, and beautiful, with ghostly tones that seem to rise from some ancient well" - The Third Eye(https://thirdeyepsychrock.blog/2024/12/18/language-of-the-torch-by-kelby-clark/)

"The way Clark attacks his instrument, allowing songs to unspool in tumbling, organized chaos is magnetic and feels distinctly his own" - The Quietus(https://thequietus.com/quietus-reviews/folk-music-reviews/best-new-folk-music-experimental-radical-traditional-winter/)
