Mindfulness in Nature

The class will start with basic meditation techniques and breath work. We'll cover the Four Foundations of Mindfulness; Breath and Body, Thoughts, Emotions, and the Dhammas. We will use our senses to connect with the natural world around us, utilizing that connection to stay with the present moment. By the end of the program you will have gained some new tools to ground yourself, reduce stress, and discover multiple ways to stay more connected to the world around you. Each class will build on the previous so being able to commit to every class is preferred, however no one will be turned away if you miss a class. The final class will be on a hiking trail we'll collectively decide on. No prior meditation or mindfulness training is necessary. Donations are welcome but not required. I recommend you bring a blanket, yoga mat, meditation cushion, or some kind of beach chair. Also bring water and a light jacket or hoodie just in case. Bathrooms are located nearby at the beach parking lot.

I'll stick around after every class for at least 15 - 30 minutes for any follow up questions or to address any concerns. I also welcome everyone to stay after the class and socialize!

About Me:

As a meditation practitionner of over ten years, I've studied a variety of wisdom traditions and stress recuction techniques. My main focus of study has been Buddhist meditation and practices. Previoulsy I have led a meditation group for young adults in New Haven, CT. I've participated in multiple retreats and meditation training programs throughout the last 10 years. My day to day work is in the film industry as a director, cinematographer, and editor. One of my biggest passions is spending time in nature. I feel most connected and grounded when in touch with the natural world and it's why I decided to take this approach to my meditation teaching. Our connection to the earth is one of our strongest tools in rebuilding our joy and peace.

This class is being offered as part of completing my Mindfulness Teacher Certification Program through Sounds True led by Jack Kornield and Tara Brach. I will be asking for feedback from each practitioner through an evaluation form I'll send after the end of the final class.
