Join us, WHAM, and Prof Peters to learn about the research gap and the importance of investing resources in female health!

Gender bias has been an ongoing issue in scientific research and healthcare, examples being underrepresentation of female individuals in early-stage research and clinical studies, failure to consider gender- and sex-disaggregated data, trivialization of female physical complaints, and discrimination in the awarding of research grants. This complex array of issues is often defined as the ‘health gap’ or ‘research gap’.In this online event, we will give an overview of the research gap and the importance of investing funds and resources in addressing the unmet needs in female health. <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/carolee-lee-2355aa14/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Carolee Lee</a>, founder and CEO of <a href="https://thewhamreport.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">WHAM</a>, will be presenting their pivotal findings on the societal impact of potential funding aimed at closing the research gap in cardiovascular disease, dementia, and auto-immune conditions.<a href="https://www.georgeinstitute.org.uk/people/sanne-peters" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Prof Sanne Peters </a>will be telling us all about her research on sex differences in the prevention, presentation, management, and outcomes of chronic disease, mainly cardiovascular disease and diabetes.About the speakersWHAM is a nonprofit organization working to increase awareness of and accelerate funding for women’s health research to transform women’s lives. WHAM works to increase awareness of and funding for women’s health issues and to improve the inequities and bias in research by accelerating scientific discovery in women’s health in four primary disease verticals – autoimmune disease, brain health, cancer and cardiovascular disease. The <a href="https://thewhamreport.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">WHAM Report</a> is a series of studies that examine the impact of accelerating sex and gender-based health research on women, their families, and the economy. WHAM commissioned the RAND Corporation to study these impacts for: rheumatoid arthritis (autoimmune), coronary artery disease (heart), and Alzheimer’s disease (brain). Prof Sanne Peters is an Associate Professor at <a href="https://www.georgeinstitute.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The George Institute</a> for Global Health and a Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London. She holds a joint appointment as Associate Professor at the University Medical Center Utrecht. Her research focuses on sex differences in the prevention, presentation, management, and outcomes of chronic disease, mainly cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Using large databases, she aims to reliably quantify where those differences exist and to identify the biological, behavioural, and genetic factors underpinning such differences. Another important part of her work involves the assessment of disparities in care provided for cardiovascular diseases. Prof Peters’ research has been supported by several prestigious grants and fellowships and she is a World Heart Federation Emerging Leader. She is Speciality Chief Editor for &#x27;Sex and Gender Differences in Disease&#x27; in the Frontiers in Global Women&#x27;s Health journal and Associate Editor at BMJ Global Health. She is Nucleus Member of the Population Science and Public Health Section of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology.
