About Kofi Stone

Born in east London and raised in Birmingham, Kofi Stone is often described as a captivating storyteller with an introspective, relatable and deeply honest brand of hip-hop, a throwback to a golden era. Inspired by the poetry of his grandad, Kofi began to hone his craft at a young age, freestyling, rapping at youth clubs, writing poetry and recording early demos to cassette tapes. Kofi’s early influences spanned from American hip-hop greats like OutKast, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West and Common to UK legends Kano and Sway. This fascination with rap from an early age led to Kofi’s father finding him studio time via a friend at their local church – an engineer that worked with Birmingham band Music Youth, best known for their track Pass The Dutchie. Growing up in the era of Myspace, Kofi used these sessions to record tracks and post them to the platform, generating local buzz and minor fame in his area.

Being on the receiving end of local attention, coupled with the realization of his gift for rhyming, Kofi began to take his craft more seriously and ambitions of stardom began to fester. Bursting onto the UK Hip-Hop scene in 2017 with his debut single Stories In Pyjamas followed by Nothin’ Ain’t Free, Kofi began quickly carving out a lane for himself as a wordsmith with vivid lyricism, resulting in being mentioned as an exciting prospect to watch out for.

With the hype beginning to generate around Kofi’s narratively driven and authentic style, with a core fanbase in its development stages, and a debut headline show at London’s Servant Jazz Quarters, Kofi got to work on his debut project Nobody Cares Till Everybody Does. NCTED was independently released at the back end of 2019 on the label Tru Community, founded by Kofi and his cousin/manager. The project featured a hat-trick of leading UK talent, namely Loyle Carner, Maverick Sabre, and Ady Suleiman, and would receive critical acclaim that would propel Kofi to a breakthrough point in his career. The project followed sold-out headline shows at London’s Camden Assembly and Birmingham’s Sunflower Lounge in early 2020.

In the summer of 2021 Kofi returned with 3 singles: Broken Chandeliers, featuring powerhouse singer-songwriter and fellow Brummie Jacob Banks, I Wish, and On the 1st Day. Following these releases Kofi finally embarked on his much anticipated debut UK tour with all dates rapidly selling out, including London’s iconic Jazz Cafe.

Kofi has since toured with Loyle Carner, played festivals throughout the UK and Europe including Outlook, Cross The Tracks, We Out Here, and has collaborated with the likes of Blue Lab Beats and Tiana Major9, Barney Artist and The Silhouettes Project. After taking a hiatus from releasing music to work on his follow up project, new music is finally on the horizon, and we can expect a triumphant year for Kofi Stone in 2024.
