Ana Bayatis the creator of the critically-acclaimed multilingual showMIMI'S SUITCASE(nominated for an AmnestyInternationalFreedom of Expression Award, named “a hidden gem” at 70th Edinburgh Festival Fringe and recipient of a Neda Nobari Foundation grant in Innovative Arts). Following in her father's footsteps, Ana trained in the Stanislavski system by studying with descendants of the master’s direct students before embarking for England where she underwent a rigorous conservatory training at Birmingham School of Speech and Dramatic Arts and pursued higher education degrees in Linguistics and Film.Ana has been active in the fields of theatre, film and voiceover worldwide and is thrilled to bring back MIMI'S SUITCASE to San Francisco where it first originated at W. Critically-acclaimed Mimi’s Suitcase returns to San Francisco Bay Area for 4 performances only. The reimagined version, directed by Elyse Singer, is presented in association with Theatre of Yugen at NOHspace and thanks to a grant in Innovative Arts by Neda Nobari Foundation on Jan 23, 24 at 8pm and Jan 25, 2pm & 7pm.
 
About the show: With nothing but the titular suitcase, a trench coat and a scarf, this true story centers on questions of identity, immigration, women’s rights and involuntary displacement in a humorous and heartfelt portrayal of 27 characters in 4 languages. A tour-de-force performed in English, Spanish, French and Persian with English supertitles, Mimi's Suitcase is a universal coming-of-age story of resilience and hope at once relevant, vibrant and authentic.
 
Mimi's Suitcase premiered in NYC in 2015 as a bestseller at United Solo Festival and went on to win the Audience Choice Award for Best Play at Kulturverein Boje in Heidelberg, Germany. At Edinburgh Festival Fringe it was named "a hidden gem" and longlisted for an Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award.
 
About the artist: Ana Bayat is an award-winning international storyteller, playwright, actor, translator and language coach fluent in English, Spanish, Persian, French and proficient in German, Italian and Catalan. Following in her father’s footsteps, Ana trained in the Stanislavski system with descendants of the master himself before heading for England where she pursued a B.A. Honors in Language and Linguistics, an M.A. in Film and a PG Dip. in Acting and Stagecraft from Birmingham School of Speech and Dramatic Arts. Alongside her artistic career in theatre, film and voice-over, Ana lectures as part of the Department of World Languages and Cultures at St. Mary’s College of California.
