About this event

  • 2 hours

Join Grammy-nominated guitarist Mike Seal for a workshop at Waynesboro Music on Saturday, May 25. Mike is a Nashville-based player who has honed his craft over nearly a decade in the Jerry Douglas Band, as well as with artists including Sierra Hull, the Jeff Sipe Trio, John Hiatt, the Jeff Coffin Mu’tet, Garrison Keillor and Prarie Home Companion, and many others.

Mike is a dedicated fingerstyle guitarist with a unique voice on the instrument, who YouTuber Rhett Shull recently described as “a living guitar legend.” His teaching career includes many years of private instruction, and this year, he’ll be teaching at Tommy Emmanuel camp in Nashville, alongside Bryan Sutton, Emmylou Harris, and others.

In addition to playing bluegrass-related music (usually on electric guitar) at the highest level with Jerry Douglas and others, Mike’s perspective comes from his strong background in jazz and theory. Though he’s lived in Nashville for many years, he’s also a Shenandoah Valley native, from Bridgewater, Va.

The workshop topics will include:

  • Useful application of basic theory
  • Chord vocabulary expansion
  • Fingerstyle concepts and techniques

You don’t need to bring your own guitar, but feel free to take notes, and expect to hear Mike play several tunes. This two-hour workshop will also include Q&A, so bring your questions!
