Mid Mod Marvel: Modestly Modified

Join Docomomo US/MN to tour a Modernist home, the Aldersgate Methodist Parsonage, built in 1959 across from Minnehaha Creek.

This mid-century parsonage residence took shape for the pastor of the former Aldersgate Church in St Louis Park. This dark gray rambler features oak wood floors, two fireplaces, and an open floor plan created as part of a remodel, designed in 2018 by architect Dale Mulfinger. An overhaul of the majority of the west-facing second floor now provides modern finishes, appliances and updated bathrooms, yet honors the heritage of the home with flat panel cabinets, re-used kitchen knobs, and original trim woodwork.

Expansive views of the creek allow an abundance of natural light and amazing sunsets. A deck with a whimsical spiral staircase is now accessible through sliding glass doors off what was the original kitchen dining space. The house was designed by A&G Drafting Service of Hopkins, run by C. Robert Anderson. The builder was Fideldy & Shultz

The Aldersgate Methodist Parsonage is located across from Meadowbrook Lake + Park, south of Excelsior Boulevard, in St. Louis Park.
