The City Grocery Restaurant Group is proud to announce the line up for the second annual “Light In April” fundraiser for Chef John Currence’s foundation, Move On Up, Mississippi. Move On Up, founded, by Currence in 2015, targets efforts in Mississippi in the area of childhood hunger and nutrition. “It’s time to take the fact that Mississippi shows up at the bottom of every annual list published and do something about it,” says Currence. “It is no laughing matter we continue to bring up the rear. We can make change, if we put our minds to it.” The second year in, Light In April will open its doors a little more to the public. A ticketed event on Friday night, “Mexissippi,” will feature a dozen of the top chefs from across the state celebrating the minority men and women of our kitchens without whom we could not operate. “These folks work tirelessly in our kitchens and dining rooms, rarely getting credit for the unbelievable work they do. They are the heartbeat of our industry,” says Currence. Each chef will prepare a different tasting portion of a latin-inspired dish for the event.
 
“Mexissippi” Salute to Mississippi’s Best 7:00-10:00 National Guard Armory Pavillion (University Ave/Bramlett Blvd) $55 Mississippi’s top chefs honor the men and women behind their operations with a their twist on Latin flavors. Cathead vodka, Maker’s Mark bourbon and Yalobusha Brewing Company, provide beverages and more Mariachi and piñatas than you can shake a stick at!
