Metka EdTech Hack

Metka Centre for Media Education is a non-governmental organisation providing hands-on media literacy skills for children, youth and their educators. Metka has robust roots on film education working hand-in-hand with the film  professionals encouraging the young generation to participate and create today's visual culture.The media educators in Metka have identified the media: book, picture, moving images, AR, VR or other edtech which are relevant in teaching the future generation. In the era of emerging AI it is vital to understand how the tech around you can best serve you in learning, collaboration with others and expressing your own emotions and values.

JOIN IN! Hackathon is a co-creative competition in 48 hours. Metka invites school teachers &amp; developers to a dialogue with EdTech companies. 
Do your thing - and make the future education even better. Connect with great teams and experts. Develop your ideas or products further into viable solutions. Tackle real classroom challenges. The teamwork begins on Thursday and the best solutions will be nominated on Saturday.
Challenge 1: The most scalable / export ready / innovative and pedagogically high quality educational technology (also existing products with features developed during the hackathon). Extra points for considering socio-emotional aspects and / or using AI respectfully.
Challenge 2: The best way to find and purchase high quality content for secondary education (lukio OPS, ammattikoulut). Winning solution takes in to account students as end users, API services and business viability. This challenge requires real talents in systems planning, back/front end / child centered UX development, understanding of content production ecosystem, learning incentives and scale-up business. You will find tech/ edtech and pedagogial teammates and mentors at the hackathon FB group, Slack or live in the venue. 
Prizes: Winning coded solution takes 1 000 € - the jury has the right split the amount between the two challenges. Winning teams of both challenges are awarded with two 1-day Mindtrek Conference Passes and to showcase their solutions both winners are offered a start-up stand (1mx1m) on October 11th at Mindtrek 2018. Both winners pitch their solutions on ITK-päivät event April 12 and participate in the finald pitching of Finlands 2018 all educational hackathons at Dare To Learn in September plus are awarded a direct access to Junction hack in November by Golden Tickets. Also other solutions are encouraged for further development with the challenging partners. 
Teams own the IPRs for their solutions and there is an IPR legal advisor present at the hackathon. 
Students &amp; teachers &amp; developer teams are warmly welcome to participate. Free registration, nevertheless for no-show we are forced to charge an amount of 50 e. For full-time participants Thu-Sat: T-shirts, refreshments and other cool stuff included. The working language is English, Finnish and other language speakers warmly welcome.
