The Memory Lab is a free space for community members to digitize personal archive collections. Using professional-grade equipment, library patrons can digitize multiple formats, including: audio cassettes, VHS cassettes, film reels, slides, and photographic prints. Let us help you preserve your personal records!
The following materials are currently being accepted for digitization:
- Photographs
- Photo slides
- Photo negatives
- Paper documents no larger than 8.5"x11"
- 8mm and Super8mm film reels
To use the Memory Lab, patrons must have a South Pasadena Public Library card in good standing, make a reservation, and read and sign a waiver upon arrival at the Memory Lab.
Appointments
Memory Lab appointments are available on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 3:00 p.m. and 5:10 p.m.

Frequently asked questions
Nope! A trained staff member will be there to answer all questions, assist with equipment usage, and explain the process of digitization.
Only photographs, photo slides, photo negatives, paper documents, and 8mm/Super8mm are currently being accepted for digitization.
Memory Lab appointment slots are two hours long. It can take up to ten minutes to scan one photograph. Keep this in mind when you are planning for your appointment. It is recommended that Memory Lab users select photographs, slides, negatives, and film reels that hold the most value to them.
