Frequently asked questions

What is a Memory Cafe?

A memory cafe is a social gathering for individuals living with dementia and their care partners. Guests are welcome whose dementia is due to any underlying condition at any stage of disease progression. Care partners include spouses, children, friends or professional caregivers.

Why are cafes needed?

People living with dementia & their care partners often face social isolation. This can be due to dementia making everyday activities challenging, but also because of stigma that makes people feel unwelcome or embarrassed. Social isolation can make symptoms worse and lead to other health problems.

What are the benefits of memory cafes?

Cafes offer a place to connect with others without invasive questions about one's diagnosis or pressure to talk about dementia unless guests want to do so. They also help form friendships and provide an opportunity for care partners and people living with dementia to have fun together.

Organized by

Founded in 1983, The Nature Connection is a 501c(3) non-profit organization based in Concord, MA, that connects people through and to nature. The Nature Connection grew out of a belief that we are all connected through nature, that this connection can restore a sense of wholeness and a sense of place, and that this connection is both elemental and essential. Having knowledge of the natural cycles and seasons can give us the context we need to come through difficulty.
