Memory and Metaphor: Postmodern Architecture and the Memphis Group
In 1980 an exhibition in Venice called “The Presence of the Past" challenged the brave and pure--and yes, sometimes cold--International Style canon. This exhibition was a celebration of the past and of diversity, eclecticism, variety, and ethnicity. A new richness in architecture and design emerged with architecture by Robert Venturi, Michael Graves, and design centered around the colorful and irreverent furniture and household objects anchored by the Memphis Group.
The fee is $6 for a one-hour lecture per device.
