Mel's Kitchen
Overview

A new play by Melanie Futorian, directed by Jake Turner, with choreography by David Grenke.

Sensitive, savvy dancer Mel isn’t just a resident of Hell’s Kitchen; most days, she and the neighborhood feel like one and the same. Like the varied, multifaceted people around her, Mel has lived many versions of herself over the years—dancer, dreamer, eager-to-please actor, strip-joint star, tentative lover, wanderer, Broadway hopeful. When she finally gets the chance to leave, it’s more than the city’s rhythm she’s trying to escape… yet something keeps pulling her back. Mel’s Kitchen is an intimate drama about ambition, art, survival, and reinvention. Set against the changing face of Hell’s Kitchen, the play blends movement and storytelling to explore the many selves we inhabit in order to endure.

Featuring Shannon Barnes, Julia Flow Callies, Kamila Kopčová, Noah Lindquist*, Marissa Malone, Naomi Oliver, and Denise Pence*.
