About this event

If you have ever wondered why people are different in the way they behave, learn, relate to each other, communicate, and live their lives, the answer lies in the brain. Please join us to learn more about what the brain is, what it does, how it develops, including the many ways that development can be derailed. You will emerge from this training with a better appreciation of your own brain and that of the people around you, and learn specific ways in which you can boost brain activity and advance the cognitive potential of yourself and your clients.

Specifically, individuals completing this training will be able to

1. Describe the differences between types of cells which make up the brain and how the communication between those cells facilitates our behavior, thoughts, and emotions.

2. Identify the main structures of the human brain and their functions.

3. Describe changes in brain development before and after birth through adulthood.

4. Appreciate the concept of neurodiversity and its various causes: genetics, brain infections, and environmental factors like chemical exposure, oxygen deprivation, or malnutrition.

5. Recognize which activities can facilitate brain development and regeneration through the mechanism of neuroplasticity.

6. Engage in brain boosting activities with the people they support.

This training has a required preparatory homework component which is estimated to take 1.5 hours to complete. This work must be completed before attending the scheduled session and those who do not submit their completed activity before the training date will not be permitted to attend. Registration for the session will close seven days before its date and instructions for the homework activities will be emailed to the registered participants at that time.

Please reach out if there are any questions.
