About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

On Thursday, May 23, we welcome Mollie McKinley to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. McKinley will be talking about her work in sculptural photography that’s centered around elemental intelligence. Her current body of work explores subjects like biofoam and froth that gathers at the bottom of waterfalls, algae, and the gloopy flowstone in limestone dissolution caverns. She makes macro photographs of these phenomena and prints them at a large scale, finally fabricating them into subtle, sculptural forms. McKinley will discuss how she integrates sculpture into her photography practice by using soft sculpture techniques, neon, and stained glass to push the boundaries of traditional photography. She'll also share some of her large-scale work in progress from her recent residency at Light Work. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s YouTube Page at 6 pm.

Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.

Mollie McKinley is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice forges relationships between photographic image and sculpture. Based in the Hudson Valley of New York, McKinley’s work has been shown at Fridman Gallery, NADA, The Contemporary Jewish Museum, Pioneer Works, UrbanGlass, Independent Curators International, The Dorsky Museum at SUNY New Paltz, The Museum of Arts and Design, Anthology Film Archives, and others. McKinley holds a BA in photography from Bard College, and an MFA in sculpture/dimensional studies from Alfred University. She is a contributor to How-To Kit (2023), co-published by the Walker Art Center and the Dia Art Foundation. She is a 2024 Light Work artist-in-residence.
