A Thoughtful Dating Event For Singles, 30s-40s, Greenpoint
We organize host-free dating events where interactions happen organically.
This event will cater to ages roughly 30-40 who identify with the gender of their birth and are interested in a heterosexual relationship.
The idea here is simple: a comfortable environment to meet others interested in forming a meaningful partnership. The venue is open to the public and we eschew MCs, name tags, and midtown :) You will meet exactly five dates. We deliberately limit attendance to avoid social fatigue and create a more relaxed environment.
In advance of the event, you will be provided with the name and brief description of your dates. There is only one requirement: meet all five of your dates before you bounce.
We understand chemistry -or lack therof- may influence your conversations once at the venue, but to ensure an equitable experience for all attendees, we ask that you attempt to limit (at least the initial!) conversations with "dates" to ten minutes, and make your obligatory five rounds within an hour. We want to create an environment of mutual respect and empathy; the golden rule never went out of style.
You are asked to confirm attendance within twelve hours of the event start time. If you do not confirm attendance and a replacement participant is unable to be secured from the waitlist, the event will be cancelled. If you confirm attendance but do not check in within 30 minutes after the event start time, you may be excluded from attending future events; this isn't meant to be harsh, but an incentive to protect the experience of the larger group.
For our events, the rules of engagement are:
Respect: Understand that "misses" don't preclude respect from both ends. Be civil if you're not feeling it; be accepting if your interest goes unreturned.
Intent: You are genuinely interested in forming a monogamous partnership and reside in the NYC area fulltime.
Inclusivity: You are open to forming meaningful relationships without preconceived restrictions around appearance, belief, or background.
P.S. What is it about dating apps that feels suboptimal?
Like most ostensibly “free” services, the price is your time, data, and health. The experience of viewing others in a gamified fashion combines desensitization with a rising anxiousness, not to mention exposure to bad actors, while the probability of “success” resembles a Las Vegas slot machine. Behind the scenes, these companies are examining and profiting on a very clear picture of your most intimate behavior. More than just a little creepy.
Whether the above concerns resonate or not, we gather there are still many out there who prefer to put the phone down, get out in the world and meet someone real. And while we make no assurances that you’ll fare any better finding chemistry through our little operation, we can at least return some time, energy, and privacy back to your life, with a consolation prize of potential friendships, networking opportunities, or gateways to other relationships or activities.
