About this event

The Medical Assistant self-study class prepares the medical assistant to be certified through the National HealthCareers Association. The course is self-paced and online.

The online, 8-week program will provide students with:

  • A comprehensive study guide through National Health Career Association (NHA).
  • Six (6) practice exams prior to taking the national certification exam.
  • Missouri State University-West Plains will be the dedicated testing site for the exam.
  • Students will be registered by MSU-WP staff for the exam.
  • The course includes one attempt at the national certification.
  • This course does not have a clinical component but will have online instruction/support.

Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) will register the student with NHA and provide dedicated support, as needed.

Pre-requisites:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and completed a medical assistant training or education program within the last 5 years OR
  • Possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 1 year of supervised work experience in the medical assisting field within the last 3 years.

  • Medical Law and Ethics
  • Phlebotomy collections and processing
  • EKG monitoring

Missouri State University-West Plains offers advanced technological training, customized and community education to area residents

MSU-WP offers the university’s Associate of Applied Science in Technology degree with options in Advanced Industrial Maintenance, Terry L. (Bo) Pace Advanced Welding & Fabrication Technology, and Manufacturing & Technology Management. Certificate programs in each of these areas are also offered.

These hands-on, skills training programs prepare students for employment in manufacturing industries with automated processes, welding and fabrication. Students will have knowledge in materials, automated manufacturing, applied electricity, mechanical and fluid power systems and be well suited for technician positions.

In addition, customized training programs can be provided on an as-needed basis to area businesses and industries.
