A new musical that explores true stories of everything that comes with anxiety, depression, and other mental health illnesses.

Join Montgomery County Prevention Coalition at Alter High School for a screening of the award winning musical "The Anxiety Project". During the screening, select cast members from Alter High School's Castle Players will perform several selections from the musical live on stage. Following the musical we will also have a panel discussion on the themes presented in the show.

THE ANXIETY PROJECT is a new musical that explores true stories of contemporary suffering, loss, struggle, alienation, friendship, brokenness, love, hate, and everything that comes with anxiety and depression disorders and other mental illnesses. The show combats the last great stigma and gives voice to the people who live it – using the actual words of those for whom this disease is a large part of their lives.

At once poignant and touching, this new musical explores the effects of mental illness on our collective minds – and how ignoring it leaves ripples in our social existence. Inspired by real stories of real sufferers, The Anxiety Project tells the story of Avery - one semester away from her doctorate in Psychiatry. Her thesis involves multiple case studies on Anxiety/Depression. Avery has charts, spreadsheets, and file folders full of data. But the more she delves into each case, the more she realizes that numbers only tell half the story. When mental illness hits closer to home than she ever imagined, Avery realizes that clinical must meet compassion as she finds herself fighting the stigma and giving voice to those who need it most.

Told episodically with a contemporary pop/rock score (and at times using actual words from actual survivors), The Anxiety Project is a hard-hitting look at mental health in America. To learn more or find other offerings check out their website at http://www.deanandbrush.com/the-anxiety-project

The panel discussion will include the creators of the show (David Brush and Rachel Dean), the show's original director and head of the Alter Theatre Program (Megan Wean Sears), a representative from local mental health organization It's Time 2 (Meredith Russ), as well as several cast members and representatives from Alter's Hope Squad, and a current mental health professional.

This showing and panel will have Mental Health First Aid trained staff present should anyone attending need additional support. Please be aware that depictions of self-harm, gun violence, and suicide attempts are present during this show.

The Montgomery County Prevention Coalition is comprised of community leaders with a passion to prevent substance misuse and promote positive mental health.
