MCN 2020 VIRTUAL: Sustainability: Preserve/Progress

What sustains us? The conference theme for MCN 2020 VIRTUAL—an experience like no other previous conference—is Sustainability: Preserve/Progress. Together, we will explore the tension between transformation and longevity. Sustainability has many facets—technological, financial, environmental, cultural, social, and personal. We recognize the increasingly fraught nature of sustainability—amplified now as we navigate global crises in health, labor, climate change, decolonization, and more. Let’s confront these issues, retool our skills, reconnect with one another, and work together for a more equitable digital future in museums.

Did you say VIRTUAL?

MCN has held a conference every year since its first in 1968. Skipping this year just wasn’t an option so MCN 2020 will be our first-ever virtual conference. That means it’s new for everyone, including all of us at MCN, our amazing volunteers, and everyone working to make this event happen. We’ve put together a great program and are preparing a whole range of resources designed to help you navigate the MCN’s virtual conference space. This is not your typical virtual conference—think of it as our usual IRL MCN experience, online. Let’s do this!

Registration Fees

  • Standard Registration - $120 - Speakers receive 50% off standard registration, a $60 credit (A discount code will be emailed to you to use at checkout.)
  • Member Registration - $60 - Current MCN members receive 50% off Standard Registration (A discount code will be emailed to you to use at checkout.)
  • Hardship Registration - $40 - Microsoft is making 125 subsidized tickets at $40 available to anyone who’s experiencing a financial or health hardship as a result of the pandemic. First come, first served. Due to the limited availability of tickets, we ask that only those who really need assistance take advantage of this offer.
  • New Membership + Registration - $150 - Save 50% on the conference registration and receive access to members-only resources including special-interest groups, mentorship, and community content.
  • Workshop Hold - $10 - See an in-depth workshop that suits you? Claim your spot with $10 (Fully refunded if workshop is cancelled). Note: If you decide to add a workshop to your conference registration at a later date, be sure to use the same email you registered for the conference to ensure your workshop ticket is added to your registration profile in MCNSched.
  • Last Chance Registration - $160 - Effective November 9, 2020 and through the end of the event.

How do I become a member?

  • Join or renew on our membership portal.
  • New members or those whose membership is expired, simply select the $150 'New Membership + Registration' package to include a one-year membership with your registration.

Black Speaker Fund

In recognition of the disproportionate effect the pandemic and continued racial injustice has had on our black colleagues, we are fundraising for a Black Speaker Fund to offer some support for Black speakers. Please consider making a donation at check-out. Thank you.

What happens after I register?

  • The first step to joining MCN 2020 VIRTUAL is to register. From there, you will receive an email with all of the information you need to access and navigate MCN’s virtual conference space.
  • Once you're logged in MCNSched, we encourage you to complete your profile and upload a headshot to let others know about you.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • You may cancel your registration and receive a full refund ONLY through October 10, 2020. Cancellations and refunds will not be accepted after that date.
  • If a workshop you signed up for is cancelled, you will be refunded the $10 hold fee.
