Planner:

Jonathan Finks, MD, Michigan Medicine

Target Audience:

Bariatric surgeons and other physicians from the state of Michigan.

Description:

The Michigan Bariatric Surgery Collaborative (MBSC) meets tri-annually to discuss data, trends, and outcomes from our robust clinical outcomes data registry. We collaborate and engage with our participating sites on various initiatives aimed at improving quality and decreasing the costs associated with bariatric surgery. After completing this activity, participants will be able to implement advances in bariatric surgery such as utilizing the Area of Deprivation Index (ADI) to improve outcomes, standardizing protocols to enhance care after same day sleeve gastrectomy, and new trends in the management of common bile duct (CBD) stones after gastric bypass.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this meeting, the learner will be able to…

· Understand the goals and objectives of the proposed SUCCESS project and identify barriers to implementation at your hospital.

· Understand the ways in which the Area of Deprivation Index (ADI) effects adverse outcomes after bariatric surgery.

· Characterize trends and outcomes in hiatal hernia repairs from 1 – 5 years post-op.

· Appreciate barriers and facilitators to standardizing same day sleeve gastrectomy protocols.

· Utilize PCP and referral data to begin building relationships with those referring patients to bariatric surgery.

· Apply new trends in the management of common bile duct stones after gastric bypass to improve outcomes.
