Every month will have a different theme, which means different experiments every month!

Who can participate?

Students between the ages of 8 and 13 years old are eligible to participate. Unfortunately, this is one of those rules we can't budge on. Sorry!

How can we participate?

  1. Register via the Eventbrite link by selecting the time that works best for you in our drop-down menu (Click on the orange box that says "Select a Time"). Please select EITHER the AM session OR the PM session.
  2. You will need to CONFIRM your spots prior to the event. Someone from the STEP Team will reach out to you via email. Please note that tickets that are not confirmed will be forfeited and offered to students on the waitlist.
  3. You will receive an email the week of the event with important details and directions needed for the upcoming Saturday Science event.

Will we need to bring our own materials?

We will provide all materials needed for the event (free-of-charge). All we ask is that you wear proper school attire to the event, and are very respectful towards our staff and volunteers.

Is there anything else we should know?

Yes! Just a few things:

  1. A minimum of a high school aged individual (friend, neighbor, family, guardian, etc.) will need to be present when dropping off your student(s).
  2. Our classes will be within a 2-hour time frame. There are some instances where we may finish early or go over time. In any case, the STEP staff will let you know how long the session will take when you drop off your student(s). Because of this, we kindly ask that you are on-time when dropping off and picking up your student(s).
  3. We will start with everyone together, then will split into small groups for more interaction with our staff. We like to get to know you all and know how intimidating it can be to ask questions -- the good news: we're ready to help you solve any curiosity and question.
  4. Please note that if a student misses the event they signed up for, they will be automatically waitlisted for the next Saturday Science event. a) For example, if a student signs up for the October Saturday Science event and does not come, they will be automatically waitlisted for the month of November. (If you cannot make it, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer the spot to someone else who really wants to make it.)

Tickets sold out but I am still interested in participating. What do I do now?

Sorry to hear that! We would be more than happy to add you to our waitlist in case someone can no longer join us. To be added, please send an email to Cynthia Ulloa (culloa@coh.org) and include "Saturday Science Waitlist Request" in the subject line. In your email, be sure to include the following:

  1. Name of ALL students you are requesting tickets for
  2. Age of ALL students
  3. Name of the SCHOOL student(s) attends
  4. DISTRICT student(s) belongs to
  5. AM session or PM session or either? (Let us know which session(s) you would like to be considered for)
  6. Best contact email
  7. Best contact phone number

***Please note that requests are granted in the order that we receive waitlist requests. You should only request to be added to the waitlist if the tickets are sold out on the Eventbrite page. The information that you provide will not be used to track your child in any way, it is only used for us to determine age requirements are met and to see which areas our programs are reaching. We thank you for your understanding.

I have aged out of the program. Can I volunteer?

Please contact Lluvia Nunez (lnunez@coh.org) for more information.

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY! WE HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!

The Saturday Science Days series has been a part of City of Hope's SEPA outreach programming since 2015 and has continued to attract students from all over Southern California since. Our goal is to attract brilliant, curious minds to try fun, interactive hands-on science activities to prove that science doesn't have to be difficult and is indeed FUN!

Organized by

Please join us for Saturday Science Days. Each month, students ages 8 to 13 will have the chance to explore a new science topic with City of Hope staff and scientists by participating in informative lessons and fun hands-on activities. Recent topics have included “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” “Electric Energy” and “Food Lovers.” Saturday Science Days expose students to new ideas, topics, potential career paths and interests. The ultimate goal of the program is to instill a passion for STEM and expose youth to career options in science. We also want to make science fun! Saturday Science Days will run from October through May on the third Saturday of each month. The materials needed to participate will be provided for you!
