Sanctuary (Sunnyside Records) is drummer/composer Matt Slocum's fifth recording as a leader. His compositions have been recognized with grants and commissions from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, New Music USA, and the New Jersey State Council of the Arts. Slocum has performed and/or recorded with artists including Steve Cardenas, Gerald Clayton, Taylor Eigsti, Lage Lund, Walter Smith III, Dayna Stephens, Ben Wendel, and Sam Yahel. Sanctuary is Slocum's first recorded interaction with bass giant Larry Grenadier, a fixture on the international jazz scene for his 25-year association with Brad Mehldau Trio, as well as consequential engagements with Pat Metheny, Paul Motian, Charles Lloyd, Joshua Redman, and Mark Turner. Pianist Adam Birnbaum is emerging as one of top young voices in jazz today. He is a member of Al Foster's Quartet and has worked with Greg Osby, Eddie Henderson, Cecile McLorin Salvant, and The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra
