Matheson Homes Historic Tour

Join us every Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM for the Matheson Homes Historic Tours, a captivating exploration of historical architecture and natural beauty. Held at the historically significant Matheson House in Key Biscayne, this guided tour offers a deep dive into the preservation of a unique forest dwelling home.

Built nearly 60 years ago by the founding family of Key Biscayne, this home was designed as an oasis amidst a lush hammock. Its design incorporates biophilic elements that blur the line between indoor and outdoor living, featuring three ponds, a stream, and eight screen mesh walls that open up to the surrounding forest, inviting the tranquility of nature inside.

During your tour, you will have the opportunity to walk through the main Matheson House, as well as visit the charming Forest Cabin and Gatekeeper’s Home. Each structure tells a part of the family's story and their commitment to preserving the natural beauty of their environment.

In addition to exploring these architectural gems, guests will be treated to an exclusive viewing of a private collection of curated objets d'art from around the world. These pieces have been collected by the philanthropic family behind the Patch of Heaven Sanctuary, adding a global dimension to the local history.
