MATAthon Studio Show!

Music at the Anthology(MATA) is an incubator for adventurous emerging artists experimenting with composition, multimedia, collaborative performance art, and every imaginable sound in between. We present, support, and commission the music of early-career composers, regardless of their stylistic views or aesthetic inclinations. Founded by Philip Glass, Eleonor Sandresky, and Lisa Bielawa in 1996 as a way to address the lack of presentation opportunities for unaffiliated composers, MATA has since developed into the world’s most sought-after performance opportunity for young and emerging composers.MATA presents an internationally-recognized festival each spring in New York City of new music by early-career composers selected from a free global call for submissions; MATA Presents, commissioned projects presented at venues and non-conventional spaces throughout New York; and MATA Jr., an evening of music by pre-college composers, mentored by MATA Alumni, and performed by top performers in new music.www.matafestival.org

An Art Brunch Benefiting Music at the Anthology

Music at the Anthology invites you to a curated brunch fundraiser celebrating the intersection of visual art and live performance. Guests will enjoy bagels and lox, prosecco, and an exhibition of original paintings by Rosalind Reed, an accomplished artist and a valued member of the organization’s Board of Trustees and Treasurer.Selected artworks will serve as the inspiration for live musical performances throughout the event, highlighting the creative dialogue between disciplines that lies at the heart of Music at the Anthology’s mission. All artworks will be offered free to a good home with a donation, providing guests a meaningful way to support the organization while taking part in this collaborative artistic experience. You will enjoy performances by Leah AsherViolinist, visual artist, and composer Leah Asher will share how her artistic worlds have come together through a practice of improvisation. Enjoy a few short improvisations and a discussion of the relationship between sound and visual imagery. Select paintings by Rosalind Reed will be on display for "Free to Good Home" with a donation to MATA. RSVP to attend (limited to 40)

Photo credit: Titilayo AyangadeViolinist/violist, composer, and visual artist Leah Asher is an avid performer of contemporary music and creator of new artistic works. Leah is the executive director and violinist of The Rhythm Method string quartet and co-creator of performance art duo Meaningless Work with Nicolee Kuester. Leah regularly performs with New York-based ensembles such as International Contemporary Ensemble, Talea Ensemble, and S.E.M. Ensemble. She formerly served as solo violist of NOSO Sinfoniettaen and co-principal viola of the Arctic Philharmonic. As a composer, Leahhas been commissioned by ensembles including andPlay, Chartreuse, Periapsis, NorthArc Percussion Group, The Great Learning Orchestra, and Ensemble Hybrid. She serves on faculty at Lake George Composer’s Institute and the Composers Conference, and has conducted many residencies at universities including NYU, Columbia University, Berklee College of Music, Hunter College, and BGSU. Recent releases include Leah's solo album 'Retreat into Afters' on SCRIPTS records, The Rhythm Method's 'Pastorale' on New Focus Recordings, and The Rhythm Method’s ‘Seaglass’ on Gold Bolus Recordings. Leah joined the faculty of Manhattan School of Music in 2022.
