About Our Speaker:

Melva LaJoy Legrand is the CEO and Founder of LaJoy Plans, an award-winning event planning firm based in Washington DC. With over 20 years of experience in the Live Events Industry, she has produced events in almost every major city in the U.S. for audiences ranging from 10 to 60,0001.


Melva is a 2022 Global Events Industry Council Award Winner and has been recognized by BizBash magazine as a Top 500 Event Planner. She started LaJoy Plans to deliver high-quality services to mission-focused organizations, coordinating events with budgets exceeding $1M/day. Notable attendees at her events have included figures such as gospel legend Yolanda Adams, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Inaugural National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda C. Gorman, and World Bank President David Malpass.


A graduate of both Howard and Columbia University, Melva’s greatest achievement includes being one of the first women to receive the Alice J. Paul Award from the American University’s Women & Politics Institute. This was in recognition of her work in designing a community rally to support college-aged survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.


Recently, she was elected as a board member for the Live Events Coalition, serving as the organization’s Education Co-Chair, responsible for designing educational experiences for its members1. Melva’s firm, LaJoy Plans, has also been recognized as Smart Meetings 2024 Entrepreneur of the Year.
