Faculty guide their students towards evolving competence in a particular content area by creating relationships through which they impart knowledge, build skills and instill faith and confidence until students develop the ability to do this for themselves. Pedagogy is the process and practice by which we intentionally catalyze learning.

For online educators, pedagogy requires all of this and an understanding of the ways in which the various technological tools that instructors have at their disposal engage students in an active and dynamic learning enterprise regardless of any constraints imposed upon them by the platform.

This master class will simulate a faculty development workshop in parallel process. While the audience at NYU is engaged in a professional development workshop, faculty who teach online will be joining via adobe connect to participate in a faculty activity workshop of their own. The facilitator will be stopping and starting the faculty activity workshop online to engage in Q&A with the NYU-based audience and to ask them questions for reflection as they watch what is occurring in the adobe room. The facilitator will demonstrate activities that although are rooted in the available technology serve essential pedagogic purposes.
