About this event

Santa's going Chrome! Carroll Technology and Innovation Council is distributing 1 free Chromebook to eligible households in Carroll County, Maryland on Tuesday, December 19th.

When you pick up the computer be prepared to show your (1) personal identification;* (2) Carrolly County, MD address;+ and (3) proof of eligibility.^

A household (HH) is eligible if...

  • Total income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, and/or
  • At least one member of the HH receives assistance from programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, Federal Public Housing Assistance, SSI, WIC, Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit or Lifeline; Tribal-specific programs, such as Tribal TANF; Free and reduced-price school meal program or a CEP school; Federal Pell Grant; Broadband provider's existing low-income program. The person registering for the Chromebook must be a Carroll County resident. Only 1 computer per eligible household and only 1 computer per address. You do not need to be a U.S. citizen. You will not receive a Chromebook if you do not have proof of your current address and eligibility.

*Personal identication are documents such as a driver license or photo ID, passport, or green card.

+Proof of address is documentation of your permenant residence, such as mail, personal identification, or pay stubs.

^Proof of elgibility is demonstrating income or assistance.

TIPS FOR REGISTRATION: Use this Eventbrite form to make an appointment. If the event shows “Sold Out,” it means all the appointment tickets have been taken. You must have an appointment to pick up a computer. Questions marked with an asterisk (*) must be answered.

The County asks for some information to determine if you are eligible for the computer because of income or enrollment in another benefit program

The County asks for other demographic information to understand who is receiving the computers and your access to technology.

This information may be shared with the Housing Opportunities Commission and community partners. The County does not sell your data.

Yes!

What if my Chromebook is damaged, lost, or stolen?

Only one Chromebook will be provided per address. If it is lost or stolen, no replacement will be provided. You are responsible to repair any damaged device.

How do I set up my Chromebook?

Maryland Online offers help at www.MarylandersOnline.umd.edu or you can call to get help in English and Spanish at 301-405-9810 from 10am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays.

How do I use my Chromebook?

Marylanders Online Call Center provides FREE one-on-one tech support to any Maryland resident who needs help. This Call Center is operated by the University of Maryland Extension (UME). They provide free tech support in English, Spanish, and other languages upon request.
