This three-day workshop is designed for completing a portrait painting.
Day 1 we will be focusing on the value structure and wet-on-wet edge arrangements. The value structure is the anchor of the painting, and the edge treatment is one of the most powerful tools for creating depth, and determining a sense of style.
Day 2 we will focus on color. Bold color grabs people's attention the most. While the taste of color is a completely personal thing, we will work with some general rules in color theory to understand the relations of different colors of the pose. We plan to explore the different color palettes chosen by our students.
Day 3 we will come back to reevaluate our work--the value, color and edges--and make necessary adjustments. In this stage, we will strengthen the value structure, enrich the existing color, and use a wet-on-dry brush technique to create a different and interesting edge quality.
