One Goal, Many Roles: Reframing the Foundations of Domestic Violence Work
What if the greatest strength of domestic violence work isn’t new models or more information, but how well we understand, align with, and respond alongside one another? This interactive, co-presented workshop invites participants into a shared exploration of domestic violence through multiple professional lenses, including victim/survivor and offender accountability perspectives. Using realistic scenarios, reflective dialogue, and intentional pauses for insight, the session moves beyond lecture to create an experience that highlights how the same harm is encountered, interpreted, and responded to differently across systems and what becomes possible when those responses are aligned. Participants will leave with renewed clarity about their role within a coordinated community response, deeper appreciation for the perspectives of others, and a shared sense of purpose in advancing domestic violence work, together.
Ethical Boundaries in Practice: Talking to Clients About Legal Options
Professionals working with individuals affected by domestic violence often face complex ethical questions when discussing legal options. This workshop will enable participants to examine the distinction between providing legal information and offering legal advice across civil and criminal contexts, including protective orders, family law, and criminal charges. Participants will explore what may be communicated ethically to clients and how to address situations in which other professionals overstep boundaries. The session will explore client empowerment, trauma-informed approaches to discussing legal options, and ethical considerations involved in collaborating across organizations. Participants will examine how to uphold professional boundaries while supporting clients’ understanding, with attention to transparency, trust, and client self-determination.
