Maranasati: Mindfulness of Death Eugene Cash will lead us in a day of insight practice contemplating death through the lens of the first foundation of mindfulness - mindfulness of the body. This will be a day of sitting meditation, dharma teachings and interactive investigation to allow death to awaken us to life. All are welcome to this rare in-person day of retreat in San Francsico!

Eugene Cash is the founding teacher of San Francisco Insight. He has been a Buddhist teacher since 1990. He is a senior teacher on the Spirit Rock teacher council. At Spirit Rock Eugene co-leads the Community Dharma Leader training. Eugene’s teaching is influenced by many streams of Buddhism–– Theravada, Zen and Tibetan. He is also a Diamond Approach teacher. He’s passionate about practicing 24/7, supporting awareness, investigation and realization in daily life.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to bring?

You'll need to bring or buy your own lunch during the mid day break. Chairs and sitting cushions are available but you are welcome to bring your own. We suggest you wear comfortable clothing for this day of practice.

When should I arrive?

Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to settle in before the 10am start. There will be breaks throughout the day. We will finish by 4pm.

Parking and Transportation

The retreat is being held at San Francisco Buddhist Meditation Center at 37 Bartlett St. near 21st and Valencia in the Mission district with easy access to public transportation. There is 2 hour street parking in the neighborhood. Biking is also encouraged!

What if I'm new to meditation practice?

No problem. This retreat is for people of all levels of practice. The teacher will guide you through the meditation sessions and inquiry practices. Also, you can sit on a chair or a cushion, whatever works best for you. We want you to be comfortable.
