Friends Who Are Going
Event description

MAPS Canada is in the process of conducting research investigating the effectiveness of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with full approval and involvement from Health Canada and the U.S.Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

This is the FIRST legal research investigating the treatment potential of psychedelic-assisted therapies in Canada since 1972.

In September 2015 we concluded our Phase 2 clinical trial in Vancouver, B.C. and the early data has been very promising. We are now preparing for our final Phase 3 clinical trial which is the FINAL step required to make MDMA-assisted psychotherapy a legal prescription treatment.

Join us at our Campaign Kickstart Party on April 29th at 7pm at Creekside Community Centre and help us get the dial moving as we head towards our funding goal.

**Food and Beverage**

We will be providing an assortment of delicious locally produced Canapés by Bigheart Bannock Catering and a cash bar featuring locally brewed and distilled drinks.

**Opening Ceremony**

Our event will be opened by Gyauustees, whose names means The one who gets things done, is a member of the tribal people of the Nuu-chah- nulth Snuneymuxw Skokomish Kwakwakwakw, with strong family ties to Secwepemc. His people are alive and well on the Pacific Northwest Coast of what is now called North America. Through his connection to the Spirit of Unity, Peace, and Dignity, Gyauustees has been on an incredible journey of acceptance, forgiveness, and personal redemption from what can only be described as the attempted genocide of his people. He has the blessing and the privilege of receiving the guidance and direction to carry many responsibilities in ancient rituals and private ceremonies, along with the task of carrying and sharing the traditional songs.

Dr. Gabor Maté

A renowned speaker, and bestselling author, Dr. Gabor Maté is highly sought after for his expertise on a range of topics including addiction, stress and childhood development.

For twelve years Dr. Maté worked in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside with patients challenged by hard-core drug addiction, mental illness and HIV, including at Vancouver’s Supervised Injection Site. With over 20 years of family practice and palliative care experience and extensive knowledge of the latest findings of leading-edge research, Dr. Maté is a sought-after speaker and teacher, regularly addressing health professionals, educators, and lay audiences throughout North America.

Dr. Devon Christie

Dr. Devon Christie completed her Honours Bachelor of Health Science and Doctorate of Medicine degrees at McMaster University, followed by Rural Family Medicine specialization. She studied with the Institute for Functional Medicine and in 2016 became a Certified Practitioner. She is also a certified Relational Somatic Therapist.

She believes trauma and adverse childhood experiences are some of the deepest roots of most individuals’ present day health problems and compassionately aims to liberate the imprints of these experiences from patients’ physiology. Dr. Christie will be bringing her expertise and training to the MAPS Canada MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy Phase 3 clinical trial.

Her recordings are diverse, ranging from the ethereal and meditative sounds of crystal bowls with harp and drums, to the eco-folk, inspirational songs she performs with her guitar. A recording artist with 4 CD’s under her belt, Theda has performed at local music festivals in BC and the Ottawa Folk Festival.

Inspired by the astonishing, fractal nature of existence, from the innermost workings of atoms to the vastness of the cosmos, Mary's art combines themes from nature, her scientific training and intuitive senses. Her art is designed to soothe the soul, expand the mind and inspire the creative in all of us.

Float House

We are an independent, local business created out of passion, enthusiasm and a belief that floating, as a practice, can help a large majority of people. The float tank (isolation tank or sensory deprivation tank) is an amazingly simple, yet powerful tool that can enhance one's overall living experience. A highly reduced sensory environment, such as a float tank, is known for inducing natural psychedelic-like experiences that can be very healing. Reducing all external reality potently calms the central nervous system and redirects one's awareness deeply within.

Our entrepreneurial pursuit within an unregulated and relatively unknown industry has been one of great commitment, patience, adaptation, excitement, and discovery. Through our experiences, we have developed a deep appreciation for the work that organizations like MAPS Canada are completing. We understand how important community support is when you are paving the way, that is why we have chosen to support MAPS Canada throughout their upcoming crowdfunding campaign.

Nathan Babcock

Is going to be matching dollar for dollar all contributions up to $2500 at the event. He has also generously contributed $2500 upfront to our campaign
