An introductory workshop on using GIS to map environmental justice concerns

Mapping Your Local Environment (MYLE) is an introductory workshop that addresses inequitable data representation by training participants in GIS to map local environmental justice concerns. Local journalists, accompanied by environmental justice organizers and other interested community members, will learn to identify and challenge biases by developing critical skills to find, analyze and present relevant local data, combining qualitative and quantitative insights to build powerful narratives. This workshop is presented by <a href="https://outliermedia.org/detroit-documenters/" title="https://outliermedia.org/detroit-documenters/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Detroit Documenters</a>, <a href="https://planetdetroit.org/" title="https://planetdetroit.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Planet Detroit</a>, and <a href="https://detroitdata.org/" title="https://detroitdata.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Detroit Data</a> in partnership with <a href="https://www.rootedfutureslab.io/" title="https://www.rootedfutureslab.io/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rooted Futures Lab</a> and Urban Data Response. Agenda:10-11 a.m. - Networking and Remarks11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. - Workshop (including a lunch break) Lunch and beverages will be provided. Please bring a laptop and charger. If you are unable to bring a device, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you. Parking:Bike parking is available in the TechTown lobby.
