About this event

This introductory training for new managers and supervisors focuses on the unique context of Georgetown University and how to successfully manage Georgetown employees at all stages of the employee lifecycle. Participants will learn the expectations and responsibilities of the manager role to support recruitment & hiring, onboarding, performance management, continuous professional development, empowering employees to advance, and offboarding.

Topics Covered:

  • Georgetown Mission and Values
  • Responsibilities of Managers to the University and to their Direct Reports including but not limited to adhering to policies, setting expectations, modeling values, building a culture of feedback and supporting the whole person.
  • Introduction to the Employee Lifecycle: including key policies and best practices of Recruitment & Hiring, Onboarding, Performance management, Continuous Professional Development, and Employee Transitions
  • The University Support Network
  • Resources

Format:

  • 2-hour (120 min) live training via Zoom, with a combination of visual and auditory learning and powerpoint slides and break in between.
  • Delivered Monthly by University HR experts in Employee Relations and Leadership Development

Eligibility

Registration is open to Georgetown University employees and faculty of all levels, but is tailored towards New Managers (0-2 yrs) of administrative staff or those looking for a refresher on University policies, procedures, and values. Managers of student workers should not that this course does not address policies and procedures specific to student employment. An authenticated Georgetown University email is required to access the session.

Yes! New employees with Managerial roles are expected to take this course within the first 90 days of employment to build institutional knowledge and support your employees.

This is a live, virtual course hosted through Zoom. You must have a GU email to register and access the event.
