Mama Harmony is a warm and welcoming singing group for adults and their babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. Grown-ups sing in a circle while the children are welcome to share in the music, or to play freely in the space around us. Toys are provided and you are also welcome to bring your own (quiet) toys. Adults without children are also welcome. We sing simple, uplifting songs from around the world, in beautiful harmony. Everything is taught by ear - you don’t need to read music or have any experience of singing. This isn’t just a group for ‘singers’, it’s for everyone who wants to experience the joy of singing together with others! Singing exercises the body and mind, improving breathing, posture and muscle tension. It’s great for your mental health and has been shown to improve our sense of happiness and well-being. I believe that everyone can, and should sing together with others - it makes us feel good in so many ways. I love that magic moment when a song comes together and you are bathed in the harmonies; it&#x27;s something I am passionate about sharing with others. As a member of the <a href="https://naturalvoice.net/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Natural Voice Network </a>I teach in an accessible, informal style which is inclusive to all. Whether you&#x27;re a seasoned singer or a total beginner, I hope you&#x27;ll find the group fun and rewarding. A﻿fter relocating from London to Winchester, I set up Mama Harmony in January 2022. While the class was previously just for adults with babies, I am delighted to be moving into the bigger space of Lanterns in order to open it up to a wider age range. As a mum of two young boys I know how tricky it can be to do something &#x27;for me&#x27; that my children also enjoy doing, so I&#x27;m really pleased to be offering this class to the parents and carers of Winchester! -﻿-------------------------------------H﻿ere are some of the nice things that previous participants have said about Mama Harmony:&quot;﻿I love learning simple new songs to sing to my baby that sound gorgeous and aren&#x27;t another round of &#x27;wind the bobbin up..&quot;&quot;I love singing and being part of a choir but haven’t been able to do this since having kids. The songs are great, nice to sing songs from around the world.&quot;&quot;[I like] learning different songs from around the world, and meeting other parents/nannies.&quot;-﻿-------------------------------------﻿FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:I﻿s Mama Harmony just for mums?N﻿o, it&#x27;s for everyone: mums, dads, grandparents, carers, nannies, and people coming without children. All adults are invited to attend and they are welcome to bring children aged 0-4 with them. W﻿hat kind of songs do you sing?W﻿e sing songs from around the world, which means some will be in English, and some will be in other languages. We sing songs that bring us joy and warm our hearts. Some are uplifting and energising, some are funny and cute, others are calming and soothing. Some songs are rounds while others have a number of parts. Nearly all will create some beautiful harmonies. H﻿ow will I learn the songs? All songs are taught &#x27;by ear&#x27;, which means I will sing the song to you, then break it down line by line - I&#x27;ll sing a line, and you&#x27;ll repeat it back. Then we&#x27;ll build up the song gradually so you&#x27;ll get to know it, or your part, before we put the whole song together. We will repeat many of the songs every week, so although there will be quite a lot of learning at your first session, each session after you&#x27;ll be more familiar with the songs and will learn less and sing more. C﻿an I listen to the songs before or after class? Y﻿es! I&#x27;ve created a Google Drive folder which has some short recordings of the songs. The link is in the confirmation email when you book your ticket to come to class. H﻿ow does the class work? A﻿dults form a circle in the middle of the room ,where we will do a short physical and vocal warm up (which sounds fancy, but it&#x27;s really just doing a few stretches, loosening up a bit and making some funny noises!). Then we&#x27;ll sing, either sitting or standing, depending on what feels right on the day. Babies can stay with their parent/carers, either being held, or fed, or sleeping next to them. Toddlers and pre-schoolers can play with the toys arranged around the room, or they can listen to the singing. A range of toys are provided, and you are also welcome to bring your own (although please don&#x27;t bring noisy toys!).D﻿o children have to be quiet during the class?N﻿o, absolutely not. They can play freely, or sleep, or eat, or do whatever they want to do. The singing does often have a calming effect on babies and children, so you might find they are quieter than usual! But we accept that there will be some noise and welcome it into our singing :)I﻿s there anything I need to bring to class?I﻿ would highly recommend bringing a bottle of water, as singing can make you thirsty. You may also want to bring a blanket for babies to lie or sit on, or some toys for your children to play with (quiet ones, please!)I﻿s there a car park? Y﻿es, there&#x27;s plenty of free parking at Lanterns.
