ABOUT THE WORKS

Whisper

In Whisper, local artists Katie Brennan and Oscar Trujillo led a COVID safe performance experience along Cliff Drive exploring the dissonance and resonance of its urban and natural landscapes. Through improvisation and set choreography, the performers and audience were afforded the opportunity to witness, reflect and connect. The dance collaborators have been in quarantine together and were able to explore closeness, touch and partnering that reflect the need for intimacy in a distanced time.

Pause

Pause is a contemporary dance film mimicking the abrupt stop in normal life due to COVID-19. Five local dancers complete movements with forced, spontaneous pauses scattered throughout their dances. They attempt to continue without knowing when they will be required to stop next. Filmed at the Anita B. Gorman Conservation Center and the Pilgrim Chapel Butterfly Garden in Kansas City, Missouri using social distance guidelines. The project is filmed and edited by Elizabeth Stehling. The original musical score is by Stacy Busch. Participating dancers are Joshua Bodden, Haley Kostas, Kyle Mullins, Jennifer Owen, and Irene Vallar.
