IxDA Pittsburgh is a local chapter of the Interaction Design Association serving the design community in Pittsburgh through activities and discussions that facilitate growth, understanding, and development of the profession.Our monthly events include seminars, panels, and workshops. Rather than meeting on a specific day or week, we remain flexible, scheduling events to meet the availability of speakers, hosts, and organizers.Our members include anyone who is interested in facilitating positive and engaging experiences for people. Our practitioners are interaction designers, industrial designers, visual designers, product designers, developers, game designers, roboticists—you name it. <p>As it did for all event organizers, COVID-19 threw a wrench into the works of our 2020 planning, but we’re back, and thanks to <a href="https://adobe.ly/38EJb5H" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>Adobe XD</strong></a><strong>,</strong> we are very pleased to present our first online event, featuring one of our own members, <strong>Val Head.</strong> We’ll be hosting her talk on Zoom, and attendance is limited, so please register now. <h1>About the Talk</h1><p>It’s a common misconception that things like inclusive design and accessibility only come at the cost of design details like motion, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Whether it’s microinteractions, animated illustrations, or larger animated experiences, a little care and consideration can go a long way towards getting the best of both worlds.</p><p>In this session, Val will show you how to build animated interactions with inclusivity in mind from the start. We’ll discuss how to apply web accessibility guidelines to modern web animation, when and how to implement reduced motion, and approaches to building up animated interactions for a solid standards base.</p>

<h1>About Val</h1><p>Val Head is a Senior Design Advocate at Adobe, author, and web animation expert. She is the author of <a href="http://rosenfeldmedia.com/books/designing-interface-animations/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><em>Designing Interface Animation</em></a> on Rosenfeld Media, teaches <a href="https://www.lynda.com/CSS-tutorials/CSS-Animation/439683-2.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CSS Animation</a> on <a href="http://lynda.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">lynda.com</a>, and curates the weekly <a href="http://uianimationnewsletter.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">UI Animation Newsletter</a>. Val has been published by Fast Company, A List Apart, and Smashing Magazine, and she’s spoken at dozens of events all over the world, including Pixel Up, Web Directions, UX Week, and An Event Apart.</p>
