Making Masks 

Tucked inside the historic Payne Whitney mansion, Albertine is the only bookshop in New York devoted solely to books in French and English with more than 14,000 contemporary and classic titles from 30 French-speaking countries.A project of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the Albertine bookshop brings to life the French government’s commitment to French-American intellectual exchange. The space reflects its belief in the power of literature and the humanities to increase understanding and friendship across borders, and in the power of books as a common good for a better world.

<P>In conjunction with the exhibition <EM>Look, look, look… a Playful Book</EM> by French publisher Les Trois Ourses, at the Center for Book Arts, Albertine is thrilled to welcome French artist Louise-Marie Cumont for a fun and interactive workshop.</P>
<P>Inspired by Louise-Marie Cumont’s book <EM>Les Masques</EM> (<EM>The Masks</EM>), the participants will draw and cut their masks playing with axis of symmetry. The final mask will offer four different interpretations that will be full of surprises.</P>
<P><EM>Louie Marie Cumont is a renowned French artist and children’s book author, and she will present her wonderful collection of handmade cloth books for children, published by French publisher Les Trois Ourses.</EM></P>
<P><EM>This workshop by Louise-Marie Cumont is part of <A HREF="http://frenchculture.org/grants-and-programs/5937-kids-trail" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Kids Trail</A>, a program for kids and families by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and supported by FACE Foundation.</EM></P>
