2023 Fall Regional Leadership Workshops“Making Local Government Work for You”

Join us for one of our Fall Regional Leadership Workshops. “Making Local Government Work for You”. This training is open to rural non-profits, community groups, and faith-based organizations located in North Carolina.

Helping organizations navigate and engage with local government is crucial for community development and growth. Therefore, we’re excited about our agenda which includes hands-on activities, resource sharing, and peer presentations.

We are committed to making sure that our workshops are accessible and comfortable to participants. This training is FREE and we are providing AM snacks, lunch, and a mileage allowance. We’ll host the workshop twice, once in Western, NC, and once in Eastern, NC. Mileage will be paid from the workshop closest to where you live.

Goal and Objectives

• Share information on various local and state public agencies

• Empower partners in government decision-making in their community

• Provide hands-on and demonstration opportunities for community partners’ programming

OVERALL Goal: Empower partners in government decision-making in their community by sharing information on various local and state public agencies and uplifting rural peer examples.

10:05-10:15 AM Welcome and Introductions – Region Room

10:20-11:10 AM Go Local: Boards and Basics

We will dive into local government boards and budgeting processes, going over ways that you are able to impact these important decision-making tools. You will also have a chance to put these ideas into action as we dig into your county's specific budget and community boards.

11:15-12:30 PM “Exploring Rural Resources” Break-Out Sessions

Get inspired by learning about amazing community projects through interactive sessions to spark ideas on how to make the most of your local government’s resources. For each block, you will choose from 1 of 2 interactive sessions.

11:15 am - 11:50 am BLOCK 1: “Exploring Rural Resources”

Session 1: Cooperative Extension: Resources for Adult and Senior Programs NC Cooperative Extension has a wide variety of programming and curriculums that can enhance your work. This session will focus on providing resource samples and a demo of their relevant curriculums Faithful Families.

Session 2: Enhancing Youth Programming in your CommunityHear about successful youth community projects that have brought together a wide variety of local and state government resources and how you can incorporate their successes including various funding opportunities!

11:55 am - 12:30 pm BLOCK 2: “Exploring Rural Resources”

Session 3: Enhancing Seniors Programming in your CommunityLearn about senior programming and funding in North Carolina while learning about remarkable community projects that are engaging with seniors in innovative ways!

Session 4: Cooperative Extension: Resources for Youth ProgramsThere are so many opportunities related to NC Cooperative Extension we had to break it into two sessions! This session will focus on resources and curriculums related to youth programming and how you can partner with and use NC Cooperative Extension in your work with youth.

12:30-1:10 PM Lunch and Networking

1:15-2:55 PM Lovely Acres: A Community Empowerment Simulation

This hands-on activity will put everything we’ve been talking about into practice in a fun, full group simulation to consider various ways that communities can build power and create change. You won’t want to miss this!
