About this event

Join curator of Greek and Roman Art, Ruth Allen, for a special tour of the exhibition Making an Impression: The Art and Craft of Ancient Engraved Gemstones on view now through November 27th. This exhibition explores the material, production, and function of these small but significant ancient artworks, it considers how engraved gems were constructed, protected, and promoted the identity of their wearer, and it draws attention to the people who interacted with them—from the enslaved miners who quarried the stones, to the engravers who carved them, to the individuals who wore them, and to the viewers impressed by their luster. This is the first exhibition of ancient gems in the southeastern United States.

Can’t make the tour? Faculty, staff and students get free admission every day at the Carlos Museum with their Emory ID. Come see the exhibition and explore the Museum at your leisure.
