Making a Mark: Creativity as a Healing Modality is a conversation with three specialised artisans from the world of weaving, textiles, and ceramics. Making a Mark panel guests will share their experience of creating and making through a conversation that explores the power of creativity and what it means to be a maker. The conversation will trace: 🧵 What it is about creating and making that feels so great 🧵 The creative process from the initial concept to the final product 🧵 What it means to be an artisan and maker in the digital age 🧵 How to establish a creative practice Meet the panel: Tabara N'Diaye is the founder of La Basketry, a lifestyle brand that began its life offering handwoven homeware and accessories made in collaboration with female artisans in her native Senegal. Tabara has since gone on to release her debut book, Baskets, a stylish guide to basket-making, that has been translated into 6 languages. On her mission to make basketry fun and accessible, Tabara has crafted a community of like-minded basket lovers through her workshops and do-it-yourself basket kits. Hetty Adams graduated from London College of Fashion in 2015, after which she then founded her first business, Henri London, which became a well-known shop for sustainable women's clothing in East London. Henri London focussed on classic, comfortable cuts with an emphasis on ethical production. Hetty discovered a joy for teaching clothes making on the side of running Henri, which brought a surprising shift in the wake of the pandemic. Demand for home sewing took off and Hetty pivoted from producing clothes to making patterns and online workshops for people to sew their own clothes at home. As a result, The Modern Sewing Co. was born. Hetty’s ethos remains the same: creating timeless, functional pieces to help people feel comfortable and confident every day.Sarah Jeffrey is a visual artist who works across ceramics and paintings to create artworks within the constraints of minimal palettes that are saturated in light and texture. Sarah’s work takes inspiration from simple forms in the history of ceramics with a modern twist. The freedom of hand-building is central to Sarah’s simple, bold structures. The name of Sarah’s brand, Haar East derives from her hometown Edinburgh. The term haar is a dense sea mist that cloaks the city. The colour, saturated light and texture of the haar has always felt appropriate for the tones she is drawn to in her works.

This event will take place on Zoom. A link will circulate via email and on the attendee event page closer to the event.
