Frequently Asked Questions

What is Maker Festival?

Maker Festival is a celebration of technology, creativity, and DIY in Toronto. The Festival unlocks the inner maker in everyone by nudging participants toward experimenting, hacking, building, and playing with the physical and digital worlds.

We bring together over 100 of Toronto’s makers, craftspeople, technologists, and hobbyist to show off what they’ve been working on, all in one place. The Extravaganza, and the Festival at large is a celebration of technology, creativity, and DIY.

When is the best time to visit?

The Maker Extravaganza is open at the Toronto Reference Library this Saturday July 8th from 9-5pm and Sunday July 9th from 10-5pm.

We find Sunday is usually a little quieter and coming earlier certainly helps to beat the crowd!

Is this only for techy people?

Nope! We’ll have all kinds of people coming to take a look and have a diversity of makers on show – from origami to installation art to textiles to robotics.

Is there a minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Everybody is welcome!

Are there activities for little ones and biger ones?

There are activities for all ages, from 3 to 100 years old.

Do I need to bring anything?

Essentials include: curiosity & imagination.

Other than that, things that might come in handy include: a wallet in case you fall in love with the few creations that are available to buy, some snacks in case you’re thinking of coming all day (cafes and restaurants are also nearby), and your family and friends to share the maker-ey love.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

If you are planing on using the public transportation, aim for Bloor-Yonge subway station and walk 1 minute towards the library north on Yonge Street.

Paid parking is available too: there are parking lots on Asquith Ave (remember to enter through the east end of the street as the west will be closed), Cumberland Avenue and Church Street.
